Nuwara Eliya

Home to lush forestlands, misty meadows and rows of vibrant green tea hills and tranquil regions that have refreshingly cold and pleasant weather all year round, usually anywhere between 10 – 20 degrees celcius; Nuwara Eliya was the ideal place for the British colonists to escape from the tropical sun and to relax and unwind in peace. Today, even after they have left, the city retains its colonial charm with buildings of victorian times and landscaped gardens. Nuwara Eliya was founded by Samuel Baker, who was the discoverer of Lake Albert and a famous adventurer who explored the Nile.

One would certainly be transported back to the colonial times as they wander through this quaint city. You could enjoy an exhilarating game of golf at the renowned Nuwereliya gold club which dates back to 1889. Take a stroll in the botanical garden of Haggala, hike up the hills that are surrounded by panoramic vistas. From Lovers Leap Waterfall to St Clair’s Falls, Nuwaraeliya is home to a host of beautiful wateralls, too!

If you are not an outdoorsy person you could unwind and relax in the cosy confines of a hotel that brings back the nostalgic feelings of a bygone era.
