Anuradhapura is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 4th century and was considered the first kingdom in Sri Lanka. During its glory days, Anuradhapura was a glamourous city and the secular capital where the people lived in prosperity, dwarfed by the giant white stupas.
Start your hosted cycling trip among the paddy fields together with your guide winding your way along hidden villages, and a brilliant irrigation system as you come into the city still held back in its rural charm. Your host will be the one guiding you through the winding roads past the gigantic Abayagiri dagoba (stupa) which is considered the largest Buddhist monument in the world.
Stop over for a simple picnic overlooking the Elephant Pond. You can then choose to either continue the ride to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi which was the first Bo tree to be planted in Sri Lanka or end the tour there.
