If you’re a fan of sometimes misty and hauntingly beautiful landscapes, the Knuckles Mountain range is one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful nature trails. Named after its likeness to a clenched fist, these grounds have been studied and observed by countless scientists and anthropologists for the high range of biodiversity and landscapes. The rugged treks of the Knuckles can on occasion be soaked with a thick spectral fog that hangs low, giving them a moody, eerie vibe. This experience will be truly memorable because your guide will take you through the misty forests explaining along the way about the environment; you’re unlikely to encounter anyone else. It’ll be you and nature.
As you near the mountain range, you’ll see the scenery and landscape starting to change from palm trees and rice fields to cloud forest, montane forest, and verdant plateaus of pygmy forest respectively. Your trek guide will have intimate knowledge of the landscape and foliage you see along the way so you will be guided safely starting at Leopard Rock. As it gets toward noon, your guide will take you to a secret waterfall where you can relax and bathe in the slightly chilly but refreshing waters. Once you catch your breath you can speak to your guide and choose the slightly longer trek which is 18km or the shorter one of 8km and let him guide you on a memorable journey.
