Village life & lunch in the Cultural Triangle

The beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka is home to many quaint and scenic villages where travellers can gain insight into the lives of the locals. How about a one-of-a-kind trip to a local village near the Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka, also known as “Rajarata” (the Land of Kings)? Soak in the sounds of birds chirping and tree branches swaying in the breeze whilst you observe the villagers in Hiriwadunna going about their daily chores in a rural village setting surrounded by nature. Learn the secrets to a happier and healthier life from the villagers as you enjoy a delicious Sri Lankan lunch during your time in the village.

An authentic village experience awaits in the rural town of Hiriwadunna, located in Habarana in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. If you want to fully immerse yourself in nature whilst meeting the friendly locals, Hiriwadunna is one of the best places to be. Leaving your vehicle by the main road, your experience will begin with a relaxed walk to exhilarating boat ride from Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress built by King Kashyapa. Observe the swooping birds, the majestic Sigiriya, and the scenic mountains as the boat glides across the calm waters. Once the boat ride ends, your journey to the village includes an exciting ride on a tractor. Travellers get the opportunity to witness the calm vistas of the paddy fields and lush greenery of miniature forests during the ride. One of the highlights of the journey would be a tour of a vegetable plantation where you can harvest and even try some fresh local fruits and vegetables. Towards the end of the journey, you may crave an appetising lunch. Get ready to savour the best of Sri Lankan rural hospitality as the local villagers cook a mouth-watering meal using fresh vegetables – harvested from the vegetable garden you just visited – in traditional clay cooking pots and serve it on lotus leaves that add an extra taste and aroma to the meal. You can be part of this demonstration whilst learning about the traditional culinary arts in Sri Lanka from the villagers.
